Pirate wins NewYears Eve Twilight RaceFriday, January 1, 2010Rain threatened the final twilight race of the year at Sutera Harbour Marina, however as it cleared away a small fleet of optimist dingies made their way to the start line outside the marina. The sausage course had been set up earlier, however with the change of wind direction, it resulted in a broad reach start. Pirates Rule in Yesterdays Twilight SailingWednesday, December 16, 2009Heavy rain during the afternoon nearly forced the abandonment of the fortnightly optimist racing for crew of yachts visiting Sutera Harbour Marina. However, as the rain petered out the race officer carried out a a quick inspection outside the marina nad there was a good land breeze building up. 11 boats made it to the start line which was set as a downwind leg of a sausage course of 3 laps. Set Back To Pirates Of Borneo , Borneo Cup HopesTuesday, October 6, 2009 Pirates of Borneo discovered yesterday that the Yacht they were planning to sail in next week, Borneo Cup, which forms part of the Borneo International Yachting Challenge, is no Longer available. The race leaves Miri in Sarawak on 11th October to sail to Labuan, where there is a dinner on 12th October, prior to racing the the second leg to Kota Kinabalu on 13th Oct (thank God its not a Friday) Once in KK there are two short races followed by a prize giving and dinner. Twilight RacingWednesday, September 23, 2009 This week there was a good turnout for the bi-weekly fun racing in Optimist dinghies. There was a good wind and breaking waves which promised some interesting racing. Even before the start there were a few capsizes and lots of bailing as sailors soon leant to stay away from the bow as these small boats are not really meant to be sailed by heavyweight adults. One of the owners of Pirates Rib Shack Diner took on the crews from visiting yachts and beat them all at their own game, sailing in Optimist Dinghies in the fortnightly twilight sailing fun event. Some nine boats contested the event in light winds and it took a long time to reach the windward mark, some wondering if they would ever make it. The Pirates Rib Shack Diner opened for business in April 2009 at the 3 colour tea food court in Asia City Kota Kinabalu. The central feature is the largest open air island bar in Borneo where patrons can be served with Western style ribs, Steak or seafood to delight the palate, washed down with cold Beer
The concept was to provide a one stop dining and entertainment centre in the centre of Asia City incorporating the Pirates Bar which moved from the Kota Kinabalu Waterfront. During the day there is an ice cream and soft drinks and food from Charles Cafe and the Stonebridge Galley, together with local fish, soup and fruit.
Rib shack Diner is probably the most eco friendly bar in Kota Kinabalu, as it is built from recycled materials some of which came from The Cottage KK oldest pub which closed at the end of 1997, after 26 years of serving the public in Luyang
